  Bam’s Ever

  Avaleigh’s Boys

  Book 5

  by Sandra R Neeley

Bramley, Bam, as he’s known to his friends and family is a Bear shifter. He’s also a healer. He senses things about others and the world around him, but he can’t get a sense of what’s right for himself. He’s always known he wasn’t enough for a Mate. And he’d accepted it; until her. The female that would have been his Mate, had he been born worthy of one. And didn’t fate just love to jerk him around? It wasn’t enough that he couldn’t have her. She had to be placed right in front of his eyes where he had to interact with her and watch her find the male she was truly destined for. But it’s okay; he’ll watch over her, protect her, and love her enough to let her go when she finds her male. Only now, after pushing her away repeatedly so she’d find her true One, she’s missing. And he’ll be damned if he will allow her to stay missing; her male should have protected her better. He’s gonna find her, he’s gonna bring her home, and whether he’s worthy or not, he’s making her his! If he survives, that is…

Everly grew up forced to submit, used by the Fox skulk she was born into and especially by its heir apparent. It’s just the way of the world she lived in, but she’s always wanted more, wanted better. A chance encounter when she was young introduced her to a new friend and a whole new world of possibilities. Thanks to her friend and her friend’s brother, she learns to stand on her own, defend herself, and she refuses to settle for less than she knows she deserves. Then she meets him, her Mate. But he won’t have her, no matter how hard she tries. Until one night they finally connect. Just when she thinks it’s all going to be okay, her world comes to a screeching halt when he rejects her a final time, telling her to go to a male that means nothing to her. She runs away from her home, her friends, everything, as she searches for solace. There’s only one thing that could bring her back, her Mate. And now he needs her; his very survival depends on her. She’s going after him, and after she saves him, she’ll walk away if he still doesn’t want her. Now she only has to hope that she’s strong enough to save him, ‘cause she’s going in alone.

Edmond is Alpha of the local Fox skulk. He believes he’s entitled by birth and is cruel by nature. He was humiliated by Everly years ago and has fixated on her ever since. He’s managed to make her life a living hell. As far as he’s concerned, she’s his property to do with as he desires, and he plans to keep it that way. But there’s a chink in his plan; there’s a big Bear shifter hanging around lately, and Everly thinks the Bear is her Mate. Edmond is livid; the Bear not only interfered with his afternoon plans of a little fun with Everly, but he and his Wolf friend injured both Edmond and Edmond’s little brother. Any fool knows what that means; the Bear has to die, a slow and painful death at that. And Everly? She’s going to suffer for causing Edmond so much trouble. Neither one will ever know what hit them.

This is the fifth book in the Avaleigh’s Boys Series, about a group of shifters who make their home in the backwoods and bayous of South Louisiana. Their clan consists of a mix-matched group of five shifters who depend on one another and are loyal to no end. These are their stories.

Warning: Intended for mature audiences. These stories contain hot bear, dragon, wolf and lion shifters. They like to cuss, fight and love their women. This book contains explicit love scenes, lots of use of the “F” word (among others), some violence, and possibly some abuse both real and inferred that may be disturbing for some readers. If you are offended by these subjects, please do not buy this book.

  Chapter 1

Bam slowed his truck as he turned onto the main street in town. It was a Sunday morning, and there weren’t a lot of people about. Most, already in church or having gone to Saturday Mass the night before, were sleeping in. He decided to pull into a parking space outside Joanne’s Books and Goodies. He looked to the end of the street as he hurried into the shop. There didn’t appear to be much movement going on down there either. The bell over the door jingled as he pulled the door open and stepped inside.

Immediately Joanne greeted him, “Good morning, Bam. How are you today?”

Bam had turned just inside the glass door and was standing with his body plastered against it, trying to see down the street to the metal workshop set up at the end of it. He mumbled, “Hey, Joanne,” and kept trying to adjust his big body, pressing his stomach and chest along the front glass walls of her shop to better see what held his interest.

“You okay, Bam?” Then looking around and realizing he was alone, “Where is everyone?”

“They back at the house, having a lazy morning.”

“Wasn’t that wedding beautiful?” Joanne asked, her voice filling with emotion as she clasped her hands to her chest.

  “Yep, great,” he mumbled.

He had yet to turn around and even make eye contact with her. Just as she was about to ask if he was okay again, he shouted, “Oh, no, the fuck you don’t!” and almost ripped the door off its hinges as he moved quickly out of it and took off so fast down the street that she wondered if maybe she’d imagined him there.

Bam stood there, his body pressed against the door, trying desperately to get a better view of Everly’s work shop. He knew from the surveillance cameras he’d set up that the Foxes were sniffing around the outside of her place. It’s why he left breakfast with his best friend and his best friend’s new wife so fast. He’d not quite finished his breakfast when his phone had pinged, letting him know that the cameras had picked up motion at the back of her shop. They regist
ered motion every time someone walked within a few feet or so of her entire shop. That meant that he most often was just watching Everly coming and going from her place, but that was okay; he loved watching her. And he knew that eventually it would pay off. If the fuckers trying to coerce her into giving them money, or giving in to their other wants, came around to try to terrorize her again, he’d know. And he’d come, quickly. Which is why he stood here now. The cameras had clearly shown him black and white images of the bastards sniffing around her building. He moved a step or two to the left of the door, still inside Joanne’s, trying to better see. Yes, this was better; he could see a little more of the front of her place. Suddenly, he saw a male dart over to the front door, fool with the handle for a moment, pull it open just a bit and motion to two other males who ran quickly across the street and inside the door. The first male looked around behind himself before gently pulling the door closed. “Oh, no, the fuck you don’t!” he yelled, ripping the door open and running full speed toward Everly’s.

Only a few seconds later he was standing at the front door of her shop. He strained to hear anything from inside, placing his ear against the door and holding his breath. Nope, nothing, no sound at all. He backed away from the door and made his way around the building. It was a metal building, the type used mainly as work buildings or sheds. It was corrugated silver and had large sliding metal doors to one side of the front door and a standard-sized man door that patrons could use if they didn’t want to enter the shop area through the two sliding doors. The shop area was where Everly performed her magic. She made beautiful metal sculptures. Some were fountains, some were statues, some were garden sprinklers and even a bit of furniture. She was tiny and delicate and fragile, and her creations were just like her. And these fuckers were here to either hurt her or her creations - he’d be damned if he’d allow either one to happen. As he rounded the corner, he could hear her, Everly, as she shouted at them to get out of her place. He paused to hear better.

“Baby, you ain’t paid us for our protection. And you ain’t been around the homestead to do your duty for the skulk, either. So we here to collect,” the smarmy bastard told her.

“I didn’t ask you for protection. I don’t owe the skulk anything. I left there a long time ago. I took nothing with me, and I’ve asked for nothing. Leave! I’m not giving you anything!”

“Naw, see that ain’t how it works. Born into the skulk, you service the skulk. ‘Til you find your Mate, any of us wants you, you give it up. And guess what, baby? You lucked out, I still want cha. Just like when you was young. I took what was mine then, and I’m taking what’s mine now.” He grinned at her with a mouth full of bad teeth, “And then you’re gonna pay me, too. You know… for my services.”

“I’m not giving you anything! Not me or money!” she shrieked at him.

“Well, ya know, you said that last time, and I got both. So, it only stands to reason that I’m gonna get both again. And I gotta tell ya, I’m tired of having to fight for it. So you either get down here and give me that sweet little pussy, or I’m gonna let my buds have a taste when I’m done, again.”

Edmond placed a foot on the bottom stair that led up to the landing where she had her living quarters. As he pulled his body up and stepped on the next stair, she called out, “I’ve found my Mate! You can’t touch me anymore!”

Edmond froze, eyes narrowing on her, “Right,” he chuckled, resuming his climb toward the upper level.

“I have! He’s huge! He’s a Bear and if he finds out that you’re here threatening me, he’s not gonna be happy! You need to leave now, and maybe I won’t tell him you came here!” she screamed at him, desperate to tell him anything that would make him leave her alone. She could have fought off one of them; she’d been training, but not all three.

“Bullshit! The only Bear shifters around here are part of that clan up the road, and they all mated already. You full of shit, girl,” he told her as he tsked through his teeth, shaking his head in disbelief as he started climbing again. “You know, that lying shit is gonna get you a little extra attention, turns me on that you lie so easily, sweetness,” he told her, with emphasis on the word sweetness as he drawled it out.

“I’m not lying! There’s one left, and he’s mine. The biggest one, Bam. And I’ll call him! I will!” she held her cell phone aloft, threatening to call Bam, though she knew she had no idea what his number was. She did know that he appeared to want nothing to do with her, but that was the least of her worries at this particular point in time.

Suddenly there was a crash from the back of the shop, then heavy footsteps that brought a constant snarling toward them. The other two Foxes stepped close together, not being very brave individually. The Alpha, Edmond, took one step back toward the floor level, but did not come all the way down.

Bam stepped into the main workroom where the Foxes threatened Everly. Was not going to fucking happen; didn’t matter that he couldn’t have her. He knew he couldn’t ever claim her; he didn’t glow gold, and neither did she, but his Bear had decided that she was theirs. And fuck if someone was going to scare her, hurt her, or make her do a damn thing she didn’t want to do. He let his Bear loose a bit more, so the snarl increased. He sprouted fur on his jawline and arms, and his face elongated slightly. Then he called to her in a very growly, barely recognizable voice, “Don’t need to call me, Everly. I’m here.”

The two Foxes who stood off to the side took several more steps back toward the door at the sight of the pissed off, huge Bear shifter entering the room. Edmond wasn’t that smart. He actually stepped back up toward where Everly stood in shock, looking down on Bam where he’d suddenly materialized.

“Bam?! You’re here!” she said, her voice cracking, barely containing her shock and relief.

“’Course I’m here. Nobody’s gonna hurt you no more, Everly. No more,” he said, and his Bear snarled again for emphasis.

“You ain’t got no right here, Bear,” Edmond told Bam. “Leave now and I might not hurt you!” Edmond threatened.

Bam smiled, a slow, sinister smile that would have made Delilah proud, “Please hurt me. I want ya to. ‘Cause then I won’t feel so bad about what I’m gonna do to you.”

“Uuh, Edmond? Maybe we should go, ya know? I mean if she’s his, we can find another…” one of the other Foxes started.

“Fuck no! I ain’t going nowhere! I claimed her soon as she entered her monthlies years ago! Mine! She’s mine, and I don’t fucking care who thinks otherwise!” he shouted. Then, to Everly, “You been mine since the day you turned old enough, my pussy to use and share like I want! Tell him, Everly!”

Everly didn’t say a word; she was humiliated that Bam now knew how she’d been used at such a young age. That now he knew that she was used goods. A single tear leaked from her eye as she continued to stare at her feet.

Edmond smirked at her, “Aw, what’s wrong, baby. Didn’t want the big bad Bear to know you been around? Didn’t want him to know the little tricks you perform so well? Well, too fucking bad!”

Edmond turned his attention back to Bam, “She’s been broke, been trained, knows how to please and been used plenty. And she’s mine. So go the fuck away and find another bitch to fixate on. Yeah, I know you Bears think they’s only one. Wise up, Bear, they’s a lot more than one; just pick one and make it yours.”

Bam had stood eerily still, waiting, while he tried to gain control of his Bear. He wanted to rip the fucker to pieces right here, make it a fucking blood bath. But he didn’t want Everly to fear him. He might not be able to have her for his own, but he hoped that she’d at least allow him to protect her.

“Everly, do you want to belong to him?” Bam asked her, a snarl still in his throat.

Everly didn’t look up from the tips of her toes, but she shook her head, and whispered, “No.”

Bam looked at the two Foxes, who with his silence and stillness had gained a bit of bravery and moved closer to their Alpha. He moved so fast that no one anticipated i
t, grabbed the closest one by the neck and immediately allowed his Bear’s claws to insert themselves into the Fox’s flesh. The male screeched and flailed his legs trying to get free. He scratched desperately at Bam’s hand, where it was closed around his throat. Bam used his other hand to quickly grasp those scratching hands and crushed them with little effort. The Fox screamed, pissed himself and passed out. Bam held the male out from his body so that he wouldn’t soil himself while he still held the Fox aloft.

Edmond immediately started screaming at the Fox, “Eustace!” Then he turned his screeching on Bam, “Fucking Bear! Release my brother now! You better not hurt my brother! Let him go!”

“I’ll let him go, soon as you move aside and let Everly leave this building,” Bam told him as he stared him in the eye.

“Fuck you!” Edmond yelled at Bam.

Bam shrugged, put his other hand on the male’s - Eustace it seemed his name was - throat, and started pushing his thumbs into the soft flesh, deeply. He was sure to press on the collar bone first so that the Alpha Fox would hear the snap when it broke. It worked.

“Stop!” Edmond shouted. “He’s my little brother! Stop!” and he took a few steps toward where Bam still held the unconscious male off the ground, his entire body dangling.

Bam returned his gaze to Edmond, “Everly leaves the building, or I crush him.” Bam shrugged, “Your choice.”

“Fine! The little bitch can leave - I’ll just get what’s mine later when you go away. You can’t watch her all the damn time. Now, later… don’t make no difference to me.” He smiled as he strutted to the side, false bravado in place, as he indicated that the remaining Fox should move closer to him.
